These air fryer frozen green beans make two vegetable side portions, finished with garlic and lemon. Start with plain whole beans, keep each load uncrowded and check that the beans are cooked through before adding the lemon juice.
Choose plain whole beans
Look for a bag with green beans as its ingredient, and read any allergen warnings. Breaded beans and sauced mixes bring different ingredients, nutrient values and cooking directions. Extra-fine whole beans are slender haricots verts; French-cut beans are sliced, so the names do not describe the same shape.
The nutrition estimate uses USDA’s frozen, unprepared green-bean reference. It is a generic profile covering all styles, rather than an analysis of either retail bag used for pricing. Weigh the frozen amount. Whole beans leave different gaps in a cup, and the source portions do not establish one reliable cup weight for every style.
Cook the beans thoroughly
Frozen vegetables can still need cooking before they are safe to eat. University of Maine Extension explains that freezing does not destroy the bacteria that make cooking necessary for many packaged vegetables. Read the ready-to-eat or cooking statement on your bag, and follow its instructions.
For beans intended to cook from frozen, keep them frozen until the air fryer is ready. Check several beans for 74°C / 165°F. Use a thermometer suitable for thin food, with its sensing area inside a thick bean as described in the card. USDA’s thermometer guide explains probe types and insertion depth. If your probe cannot obtain a valid internal reading, use the package cooking method instead. A browned tip or a hot basket does not tell you the temperature throughout the food.
Leave room in the basket
Birds Eye’s frozen whole-bean method uses a single layer at 400°F for 10–12 minutes, with shaking or turning during cooking. This recipe adds garlic and a lemon finish, allows a little more cooking time and includes earlier checks. The manufacturer’s method is guidance for its product; appliances and the beans in another bag can differ.
The original load here is 300 g. Use less if your crisper plate cannot hold that amount in one uncrowded layer. Keep the next load frozen while the first cooks. Increasing servings means extra loads and extra elapsed time; stacking more beans into the basket changes how they cook.
Count the oil and choose a main
These portions include all the measured oil, including any left on the bowl or crisper plate. More oil changes energy and ingredient cost. The estimate uses the amount of food taken from each package, so it differs from the checkout cost of buying the full bags and bottles.
The beans contribute fibre, but this is a vegetable side portion. A TVP curry bowl with brown rice can provide the rest of dinner; its cost and nutrition are separate. Our protein portions guide explains how meal portions fit alongside daily needs.
Refrigerate leftovers promptly in shallow containers. Health Canada advises using refrigerated leftovers within two to three days and reheating to 74°C / 165°F. Our food-storage guide covers using frozen food and planned portions to reduce waste.

Storage & reheating
Refrigerate cooked beans promptly in shallow containers, within 2 hours (1 hour above 32°C / 90°F), at 4°C / 40°F or below. Use within 3 days. Reheat only the portion needed under a vented microwave-safe lid. Stir midway through heating. Let stand covered for a few minutes, then check several beans for 74°C / 165°F throughout. Leftovers may soften.
Substitutions
- Use plain frozen whole or extra-fine whole beans. French-cut slices, canned beans and sauced mixes have different preparation needs.
- Use plain garlic powder; garlic salt changes the sodium and needs a separate salt adjustment.
- The lemon-juice cost reference is bottled juice. Freshly squeezed juice can cost more. Check all package allergen and cross-contact warnings; the Canadian bean price reference may contain wheat.
Cooking notes
- Times allow one original-size load plus 3 minutes of preheating. More or larger portions need additional uncrowded loads; allow about 10–14 minutes per extra load and check each one. Divide oil and seasonings between loads.
- Serving controls scale ingredients and cost; times, temperatures and fixed instruction quantities describe the original two servings. Smaller loads can finish earlier. Follow package and appliance instructions, with temperature and tenderness checks.
- The original 300 g frozen weight is about 10½ mass ounces, not a cup measure or cooked yield. Estimates include all measured oil and seasonings. Small original weights are salt 0.75 g, pepper 0.3 g, garlic powder 0.8 g and lemon juice 15 g.
- Follow the thermometer maker’s insertion-depth instructions. Place the whole sensing area inside a thick bean, along its length, without touching the basket or reading between beans. If your probe cannot obtain a valid internal reading, use the package cooking method instead.
